Sector: Masp

Location: City of Erysoll

Population: < 100

Designation: Currently deemed 'uninhabitable' by the Iedral Government due to unsafe conditions

SID Advisory Notes:

“Located at the edge of the Masp-Provost border. Erysoll stands as one of the oldest known cities on the Iedrallian Continent, predating the formation of the Masp and Provost Sectors. It served as a place of trade and technological advancement alongside Evina and Iedral many generations ago. However, an unknown event caused the populations of Erysoll to split into two factions. The more affluent of the Erysoll population, who craved order and preached ideals of 'genetic superiority' moved to the northwest part of the region, which would later become the Provost Sector. The remaining population would move to the southeast to eventually form what would become the Masp Sector.

Rumors have abounded since the split, though none alive can recall what caused it, leading to Erysoll remaining abandoned and in a perpetual state of decay. It fell into further disarray during the Evina-Provost Conflict, with a number of battles taking place within its crumbling infrastructure. Now it stands as a gloomy spectre and less frequented passage between the Masp and Provost Sectors. Only those intent upon hiding from legitimate authority are now known to reside or pass through here, though there are multiple conspiracy theories that secret government facilities can also be found in old Erysoll, if you are brave or foolish enough to look, though these rumors are as yet unsubstantiated.”

[Potentials] Concrete Girls - Part II Title Card

Part 2

(Sigma Research Corporation Flight Deck)

P2s1

“SRC Response Flight 9, you are cleared to exit. Good luck.”

“Copy tower. Subjects: Response Team 9 en-route” OSCR replied in his hollow robotic voice. Steering the jet out of the hangar deftly, the robot’s mechanical digits flashed across the console, enabling the partial autopilot systems as the jet rose into Sigma Research Corp's airspace. The SRC complex was located deep within the sector of Iedral, the mountainous landscape providing a natural barrier between it and the city beyond. As the mountains faded from view below, the robot turned to the other four occupants in the jet, flashing them an awkward thumbs up. “Subject: Kat, you may proceed with the briefing, we are clear.” it said pushing the flight stick forward with its other hand. The jet began to accelerate forward carrying them over the mountains towards their destination.

P2s2

“Roger that OSCR. Keep us on course toward the target location and alert me when we're close.”, the woman seated closest to him replied. Unbuckling herself from her seat, Kat stood, adjusting her gun holster and the rifle belt wrapped around her chest. She was a relatively tall woman, wearing a tight black tactical outfit with a worn scarf patterned with the imprint of a skull hanging loosely around her neck. Blowing a few loose strands of her ginger colored hair away from her eyes, she steadied herself as the ship pitched slightly. Kat looked up towards the cockpit where OSCR, the teams robotic droid was fiddling with the flight controls. The woman seated next to it in the other flight sight unbuckled her harness and stood, flashing Kat a thumbs up as she stepped down from the cockpit.

‘You still haven't fixed that whole Subject thing have you Layla?’ Kat whispered, smirking as she steadied herself again as the ship started to turn.

P2s3

The other woman rolled her eyes in response, as she moved toward the seat lining the planes interior. She wore a similar outfit to Kat's, sans scarf and sleeves. Her olive skin contrasted her dark green jacket overlaying a black and yellow bodysuit, a pair of finger-less gloves adorning her hands. A large, dark mass of curly hair framed Layla’s face as she smiled at Kat's retorting snort of laughter. It was not the first time she had been asked that today, and was she was certain Kat was joking. A small drone drifted lazily near Layla’s shoulder, it's matte black finish offset by the red lights glowing through its main lens. It followed Layla as she turned to help unbuckle the smaller girl who had been sitting crossed legged besides her. As she did, the drone drifted near the apparently sleeping girl, beeping softly. “Mai Mai wake up…briefing time” Layla said softly, squeezing the smaller girls shoulder playfully.

The small girl stretched her arms, a yawn apparent underneath the mask she had pulled up over the bottom half of her face. Mai, her eyes still closed with her white hair adrift, pushed the drone away, forcing it to drift off to the cockpit of the jet, still beeping. Of the four non-robotic occupants in the jet, she was the smallest, her wiry limbs curled in closely to her as she sat in a crossed legged position. The girl wore a skin tight paneled bodysuit, with only her fingers and upper face exposed, her pale white skin in contrast to the suit’s black and grey. Stifling another yawn, Mai opened her eyes slowly, she stared at the last occupant of the jet with her pair of oddly colored yellow eyes. The last woman smiled briefly back at her, stopping to push her purple tinged black hair away from her face. Her green eyes went wide for a moment and she looked away muttering something to herself. Mai looked at Layla, a questioning look in her eyes.

'Maddy? You alright?’ Layla called back as she moved up to the cockpit to look over OSCR’s shoulder. This was the first time she had let her robot pilot without her input and was currently pleased with how smoothly it was going. She could feel her Potential buzzing, the consciousness of OSCR and EVA, the drone circling her, sitting at the edge of her mind. One of her Potentials, technopathy, allowed her to mentally ‘connect’ to pieces of technology around her if she concentrated. The exception to this 'rule' seemed to be the robot and drone that she had built herself, their presence in her mind a constant pressure. To Layla, their AI felt like two other minds working within her own. Taking a deep breath, she let their chatter fall away as she accessed the jet's computer systems, bringing up the information she needed from from the SRC mission database. Turning back to the other three, she stretched her arms, letting the information flow through her as she looked in Maddy's direction, waiting for her reply.

P2s4

'Erm, yes! Sorry about that. Just thinking out loud’ Maddy replied nervously, slowly unbuckling herself from her seat0. She stood and stretched, being careful not to bump her head on the jet's interior ceiling. The tallest of the occupants in the aircraft, Maddy glanced around awkwardly before stretching her arms in front of her, trying to loosen joints stiffening since their takeoff. Her Potential, which she was currently utilizing, allowed her to to ‘shift’ from her normally petite human appearance to a much larger form with increased strength and durability. In addition, her Potential also had the odd side effect of turning her skin a dark shade of green, an odd departure from the otherwise normal skin tones of the others on board. She wore an outfit similar to Kat and Layla's with the jacket unzipped to allow some space for her to expand. Standing around 6’2 after shifting, when she was normally around 5’8", was still a little jarring for her. Just don't bump your head you klutz, she thought to herself looking up at the ceiling. A faint chuckle from the back of her mind interrupted her thoughts. Maddy cleared her throat, crossing her arms in front of her as as she looked at Layla and Kat who we're engaged with the mapping system. 'Just talking to me, you mean’ came the voice again, in a slightly mocking tone. Maddy rolled her eyes. It was tedious sometimes, but her ‘Id’ seemed quieter than usual today. It had been a constant after her Potential Manifestation Event or PME, the term SRC had created to describe when an individual 'obtained’ their abilities. Her own Potential, which caused her to shift into a more larger muscular form was accompanied by an apparent manifestation of her 'Id’ within her mind.a voice It was present at all times in the back of her mind, but even more so when she would lose control of her emotions and shift to her larger form. Thankfully, it had gotten easier to deal with over the past two years. This was a credit to her former mentor and head of SRC’s R&D department, Dr. June Sharpe, who had been tracking her for mental evaluations since her PME. She had been able to come to an uneasy understanding with her Id, with June describing it as a 'mutually beneficial relationship’. Unfortunately it had taken to being snarky at inopportune moments, which still irritated her. 'Oh come on Madeline, you love me. Don't forget I'm in here too. You and your little inner monologue.’ her Id said. Maddy rolled her eyes again and sighed, as the voice laughed again.. The hairs on her neck stood on end as she noticed Kat staring at her, her piercing grey eyes making it seem like she could hear the conversation going on in her head. Kat raised an eyebrow as if to ask Layla's question again. Maddy gave a thumbs up, trying to relax.

Kat nodded and motioned to Layla. Closing her eyes, Layla concentrated again on the information she had connected to earlier. She could feel her secondary Potential buzz to life, energy beginning to flow from her body. Due to her own PME occuring at a young age, Layla's Potential had developed into two separate aspects; a form of technopathy and bio-electric energy generation. According to her Aunt June, both fed from the abundance of energy produced by her brain which allowed her to have a delicate control on both if she concentrated. Her eyes snapping open, she reached out with her ability, feeding the energy into EVA who floated nearby her shoulder. The drone chirped happily wobbling as it was encompassed in blue light. Concentrating, Layla shaped the energy with her mind, a holographic image springing from the eye of robotic companion, mirroring the information she could see in her head. The image formed hazily into what looked like a large collapsed bridge and abandoned warehouses nearby. Layla motioned again, her fingers dancing as she manipulated the energy, a hazy image showing the nearby town. Two dots could be seen moving underneath the bridge towards the abandoned buildings. “EVA...a little help please.” she whispered to the drone floating nearby. Her robotic companion floated down next to Layla’s shoulder, adding it's own energy,, the image becoming clearer. She patted the drone and lowered her arms, nodding in return to Kat. The red haired woman turned to Maddy and Mai, who still sat crossed legged staring at the floating image with her head slightly tilted to the side.

P2s75

“Alright listen up. Since this is you two’s first little mission, you newbies will be paired together. Maddy, I'm sure you've memorized the mission guidelines SRC has so I won't bother going over that again, yes?” Maddy started, nodding in response. “Like a good little girl” came the voice again. Maddy ignored it. Kat continued, “Good. This is mainly a capture and contain situation here. The three targets are female, mid 20s. Intel pegs them all as Potentials, if you haven't caught on yet.” As Kat spoke, three images materialized above the map. The first, a woman with amber colored glasses and an olive complexion stood sneering at whoever had taken the photo. The second image showed a larger bullish looking woman, her hair styled in a blue colored mohawk. ‘She looks bigger than you huh?’ came the voice again from the back of Maddy's mind, who agreed silently. The last profile was hazy, a hooded figure who seemed to be distorting the air around themself and who couldn't be seen properly. Kat continued. “Obviously we only have a clear image of the first two here. They go by the names Raine Amani and Richter Wys. The third is believed to be a woman named Tamsyn Trine, although apparently SRC’s Intelligence Division had issues getting a bead on her.” The red haired woman looped her thumbs thru her belt, leaning her shoulder against the inner doorway of the jet's cockpit. “These three, according to the SID, go by the gang name of 'The Concrete Girls’. Don't ask me where the name comes from, probably some Masp gang related business. Hand down Layla.” Layla lowered her hand, an exaggerated pout on her face. Kat rolled her eyes and continued. “Allegedly, they are adopted sisters and have been active the last few months with some stolen Provost Gen tech. That generally means 'enhancement’ on the genetic level of some kind, but we don't have specifics. The three of them have only been classified as Class D threats at the moment since they've only been hitting small banks in the same area with few casualties. They have been sticking close to the Provost/Masp border for the past couple months and have only recently started to escalate in terms of the damage they have left behind.” Motioning towards the first woman’s picture she continued. “The one with the crazy look here, Raine, is a confirmed Generator. From your classes in orientation you should know that means energy generation of some kind. In her case it seems to be fire to a degree. Only Class 3 or 4, but we will still use caution, apparently she's fairly excitable”

“Subject: Kat. Calculated mission parameters suggest this to be quite a combustible situation. ” OSCR chimed in, fixing Kat with a robotic stare, flashing a thumbs up. Layla stiffed a laugh as Kat glared at the robot trying not to smile. Maddy covered her mouth as a giggle escaped, clearly amused by the pun. Mai tilted her head as she looked at each of the three with her bright yellow eyes, apparently not getting the joke. Kat sighed and continued.

“As I was saying...she's dangerous. The big one, Richter, is clearly the muscle, although apparently she might be of Generator class as well. Sigma Intelligence Division noted something about vibrations but it wasn't confirmed.” She paused looking at OSCR, who had taken to observing a display near the flight controls intently.“ The third, Tamsyn, we have no Intel on her other than she may be a Ghost class, since we can't get a clear photo of her. Ghosts you should know are fairly rare, usually their Potentials mask them in some way from detection. She wasn't seen at the last few heists that pulled so we have no idea what her deal is, other than apparently she pulls the strings. From the reports we've received a number of Provost Gen data boxes have been going missing from the banks they've hit, so clearly there has been something they are after. So...again, this a capture and contain mission. As per SRC guidelines we're authorized to use non-lethal force if necessary. The Containment division is on standby to collect them once they've been apprehended. The area we've tracked them too big an old manufacturing district that was abandoned a long time ago, so we shouldn't have to worry too much about any collateral damage. Keep the damage to a minimum obviously, I don't want to give Commander Markus too many headaches today.”

Layla rolled her eyes, making another face. “My uncle will live. Honestly he'll find someone else to do the paperwork for him.” Kat smiled at this statement, unhooking her thumbs from her belt as she stood up straight. Sitting down next to she addressed the younger girl, speaking quietly. “Mai. You are to go with Maddy today understood? ” She pointed from the smaller girl to her green skinned partner. Maddy looked down at the other girl who returned her stare. Mai looked back at Kat and pointed a finger at her chest, then towards Maddy.

P2s5

“Protect Sister?” She said quietly, barely audible beneath her mask. She still sat with her legs crossed, her white hair falling over her shoulders. Kat nodded, smiling at the odd statement. From what she had learned when Mai had been assigned to her during recruitment, she would call those she trusted 'brother’ or 'sister’. An oddity among other 'odd’ things about the girl in front of her. “Yes, keep 'Sister’ safe when you go. No sword today though. I don't need to any messes to explain after this.” Kat pointed to the sword strapped to Mai’s back, wagging a finger. Mai nodded, seemingly understanding the gesture. Kat turned to Maddy as she pointed at Mai. “I know you two don't know each other very well, as I don't believe you've even been moved into the same living quarters right?” Maddy nodded; it had only been a few days since their second evaluation where the smaller girl and her had spared.” Well this will be some bonding time for you two then. You know her Potential well enough.” Maddy gulped, remembering the feeling. “As you know, she has to touch whatever her target is to get it working. From what I, and now you know, is that her Potential can increase or decrease the relative weight of what she has made contact with. S.I.D. classified it as ‘Gravitational Manipulation’, but she says “make things float”. Mai’s eyes brightened at the word, nodding. Kat continued. “The effect is applied again if she makes contact repeatedly obviously, but the downside to it is her energy will be drained fairly quickly. From her individual evaluations it can put a strain on her. I want you to make sure she stays in control and don't let her go too crazy.” Kat glanced down at Mai who seemed to smile back at her under the face-mask she wore, closing her eyes slowly. Maddy nodded, I don't think she will need it given the way she brought me down during that evaluation sparring match we had. “I'll doy best Ma'm” she replied. Kat patted her shoulder giving her a reassuring smile. A loud chime sounded from the cockpit interrupting Maddy's thoughts.

P2s6

'Subject: Kat we have caught up to the targets. How would you like to proceed?’ OSCR asked over the din of the of the aircraft's engines, bringing the jet around in a lazy circle around a collapsed bridge near the edge of an abandoned city area. Below them they could make out two figures slowing down, shielding their eyes as the ship flew by them. Kat glanced at a nearby monitor, noting the their distance from the Provost border. “Bring us down close OSCR. Maddy, Mai, Layla, your up. We’ll drop you off here and monitor from overhead. If anything happens we’ll be on comms. And remember. Catch. Control. Contain. We’ll contact Containment once we get them under control." Layla nodded in response, motioning to EVA, the holo images disappearing. Energy began to form around her arms as she activated her Potential again, forming a lit mesh pattern around them. She nudged Maddy and Mai playfully as she passed them, the loading hatch at the back of the jet opening.

“Let’s go ladies! We've got some work to do!” she shouted over the roar of the engines as she jumped down.

[Potentials]: Concrete Girls (pt1)

Part 1

“Next customer please!”

The bank lobby was a stale place, offering little to nothing to look at save the large bulletproof glass surrounding the tellers area and a few screens displaying information for bank customers. It was not terribly busy for mid-morning, with short queues of people restlessly waiting to proceed with their business. Security guards stood idly by the main entrance and bank vault, visors obscuring their eyes as they surveyed the surroundings.

“I said next customer please!” the teller called out, a hint of irritation apparent in his voice. His name plate which read 'Gregory’ served as the only personally identifying thing about him, his uniform and demeanor being identical to his coworkers. He peered up from his console as the next customer came forward.

“Hello...Gregory.’ said the woman approaching the window. Her gravelly voice seemed to sing his name as she rested her hand under her chin and began to stare at the teller. She was of average height, a bright red motorcycle coat clinging to her shoulders. Her hair was swept to one side, the auburn brown curls framing her shoulders. She pursed her lips as she looked over the teller, seeming somewhat pleased with the man in front of her. A much larger woman flanked her, towering above the her, with arms crossed.  She looked down at the teller through her dark sunglasses, a large blue mane of hair cut into a mohawk topping her frame. She grunted something to the smaller woman, shifting the blue leather coat she wore slightly. Gregory cleared his throat. The two women in front of him did not appear to be people he should irritate in any capacity. He tabled his annoyance for the time being.

“Hello....welcome to Provost-Masp National Bank,  d-d-deposit or withdrawal ma’am?.” He stammered, trying not to stare at the unusual pair in front of him. It was not out of the ordinary to see... ‘unique’ individuals during service hours, but for some reason the two women standing in front of him made him nervous. Tapping his foot restlessly as he glanced towards the security guards...just in case. Hopefully they don’t make a scene, he thought to himself as he waited for a response. The smaller of the two woman cleared her throat, demanding his attention.

“Hmm, are we depositing today, Richter?” the woman cooed at her companion. She continued to stare at Gregory through the orange tinted sunglasses she wore, framing a pair of large amber brown colored eyes. The woman tapped her fingernails on the countertop slowly, her long nails painted black. A smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she looked him up and down again, waiting for a reply from her companion. “Mm.”the grunted reply came back. The large woman, apparently named Richter frowned, her face a stone mask as she stared at the teller. Gregory was unsure of the meaning behind the response, although it sounded like a 'no'. The teller shifted in his seat uncomfortably.

“ I suppose we are withdrawing today Gregory.” the red clad woman said, still smiling at the teller.  “If it's not too much trouble. It isn’t, is it darling?” She continued to tap her fingernails on the counter as she stared at him. She seemed to enjoy his discomfort as she slowly looked him up and down again. “You look like you could handle a bit of... trouble.” she said, a cruel smile spreading across her face. Although Gregory could feel the heat rising in his cheeks , it was offset by the sinking feeling in his gut at seeing her smile in such a manner.

“Uh- no ma’am. I-I mean it won't be a problem to perform a withdrawal. Before we do so I will need to verify your account information and full name”. Greg managed to break eye contact with the first woman's unnerving stare as he brought up the menu on the console in front of him. The blue cursor blinked, waiting for his input as he forced himself to look at the smaller woman. “Is- is the account under your name M-Ms Richter?” He glanced nervously up at the other woman.

“Eyes down here Gregory.” The first woman said, motioning with a finger from the hand resting her chin. “My lovely adopted sister doesn't like it when people stare. She also doesn't have an account, but then again neither do I.” She smiled again as Richter snorted, a small grunted laugh escaping from her large frame.

“Oh- I'm sorry, I should have asked if you had an account, would you like to open one today?” Greg navigated back to a different menu sparing the quickest of glances up at the pair. The blue cursor again waited.

“I suppose… do you have safety deposit boxes available here Gregory?” the first woman responded, still tapping her fingernails against the countertop. The clicking was starting to unnerve Gregory as he tried to stay focused. He adjusted his collar. Why is it so hot? “Y-Yes ma’am, we have a few available, with the backing of the banks security and Provost's biometric verification. But again we will need your name to start the process.” Greg reached down in the cabinet next to him to grab a drive that would load the account software to his module. Straightening up he wiped away a bead of sweat from his forehead. He felt as if the temperature had again gone up in the tellers area.

“Mmmm where are my manners? My name is Raine.” the first woman said cooly, still drumming her fingers on the counter. “That's R. A. I. N. E.” she said slowly as her lips curled up into another cruel smile. “Don't forget the E.”

Loosening his tie to try and cool himself down, Greg typed in the letters. The other tellers didn't seem to notice as they went about their business. ‘... and last name?’ he paused and asked.

'Are you going to ask for my number too? So forward Gregory! What do you think Richter?’ she almost cooed, looking back at the larger woman flanking her. Richter chuffed, wagging a mocking finger at the bank teller before crossing her arms. Gregory gulped and not thinking, laughed involuntarily. The two woman stopped laughing abruptly, turning to him, the smaller woman fixing him with a fiery glare.

'’Is something funny?’ Raine said, a dangerous tone to her voice. Gregory gulped again not sure what to say, his mouth closed shut. The temperature seemed to go up in the room again, more beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He looked down at his console, the blinking cursor waiting for his next input. He opened his mouth to apologize, but again could not find the words to say.

'I asked you a question, you little shit. Answer me.’ Raine snapped, her voice dripping with malice. Richter, who had barely moved throughout the conversation, took a slight step back away from the smaller woman serving to unnerve Gregory even further. There was something off about this Raine character, and didn't feel like he wanted to find out what. He cleared his throat, eyeing the security alarm nearby. 'Ah no ma- I mean yes I will bu- but not that way I'm sorry, y-you aren't me t-type?’ he stammered, wanting to be polite.

“The fuck did you just say? Not. YOUR. TYPE?!” she hissed, her eyes wild. She stood up straight, growling. As she did, violent blue flames erupted from her hands, an eerie blue glow cast against counter. Raine  breathed in sharply as she clenched her fists, the flames snapping angrily. A wicked smile spread across her face, as she looked at the bank teller, the flames light dancing against her glasses.

Gregory's eyes widened in shock as he looked again towards the guards. This woman was a Potential, a term used by many for an individual with enhanced abilities. Most federal and private institutions in all sectors had laws prohibiting any open hostile use of abilities. Per the protocol of the bank, the employees were instructed to alert the guards if anyone publicly used their abilities on the premises in any way, much less in this overtly threatening manner. Attempting to reach for the silent alarm he pulled back his hand in pain as the underside of the counter had become excruciatingly hot to the touch. Deep blue flames erupted from the counter, finally getting the guards attention as the tellers next to him began to scream and yell in panic.

“Oh Gregory...why did you have to go and do that? Now I’ll have to deal with you.” Raine said dryly, as flames danced from the countertop and engulfed the the teller. The alarm bells drowned out the man's screams as the sprinklers turned on, dousing the teller area. Unnaturally the flames continued to burn as if they had a mind of their own, steam forming from the quickly evaporating water. Pulling up her hood to keep her hair from getting wet, Raine turned to the larger woman motioning towards the door. Snapping her fingers, the flames from the now burnt and charred man leapt to the approaching guards, engulfing them as well. She walked behind Richter as she began to chuckle at the chaos erupting round her. The unnaturally blue flames danced as her laughter grew louder, alarm bells sounding the distance.

“And here I thought we were going to be good friends.”
